Gatwick Airport travel chaos as passengers stuck and train station closed after power cut

Chaos ensued at Gatwick Airport where a power cut has caused its train station to close. Images shared online appeared to show passengers suck as a result of the disruption to their journeys.

A power outage occurred this morning at Gatwick Airport and is understood to have affected its South Terminal and train station.

Gatwick confirmed the train station was been closed and urged travellers to leave more time for their journeys.

It said: “Gatwick Airport train station is currently closed due to a power outage in the local area.

“We are working closely with UKPN [UK Power Networks] to fix this as soon as possible.

“Please leave additional time for your journey to the airport. We apologise for any inconvenience.”

Travellers took to social media to complain about their wait times.

User Jules Brizele wrote at around 11am: “Power cut at Gatwick train station – been stuck for almost an hour now. Welcome back home.”

At 12.13pm, @harzicn added: “There is no power and large queues building up.”
